YAKIMA The Yakima Regional Clean Aire Agency issued a new stage 1 burn ban yesterday that will remain in effect until further notice.
However, the Agency’s Mark Edler said the ban could be upgraded to stage 2 as early as today. He said the valley is contending with a persistent inversion layer.
A ban on the use of uncertified wood stoves, inserts and fireplaces began yesterday in all of Yakima County.
The Stage 1 burn ban was issued due to weather conditions that are contributing to a build-up of air pollutants.
The use of certified wood stoves, pellet stoves and other certified wood-burning devices is allowed.
