PROSSER Boys and girls in third, sixth and seventh grades took to the hardwood last weekend for the Prosser Mustang Fall Shootout.
Winning the third grade boys division was Legion of Zoom. In second was W.V. Swish.
The sixth-grade girls winning team was Eastern Washington Select, and Northwest Heat was second.
Winning the seventh grade boys bracket was Zillah, with Central Washington Select in second.
The Legion of Zoom won its first game against Prosser, 33-10. The next game was against the Avengers, which was won, 38-25. The final game for the winning team Saturday was a 26-27 loss to W.V. Swish.
Sunday, the Legion of Zoom rallied in the championship game to defeat W.V. Swish, 36-11.
The Prosser team lost all four of its games in the bracket.
There were two pools in the sixth grade girls brackets. Prosser was in the first pool with Northwest Heat, and 509 Insanity of Sunnyside was in the second pool with Eastern Washington Select.
Only one of the Lower Yakima Valley teams met up with the eventual champions.
509 Insanity lost its first game, 11-56, to Northwest Magic. The team won its second game, 34-24, against Kittitas, and finished Saturday with a 17-55 loss to Eastern Washington Select.
Sunday, 509 Insanity played for third-place honors and defeated Eastmont, 19-12.
Prosser lost its first Saturday game, 10-50, to Northwest Heat. The team lost its second game, 20-23, to Sweet Water Athletics, and fell 22-24 to Eastmont in the final game of the day.
Sunday, Prosser defeated Kittitas, 40-37, for fourth place.
Saturday, two teams with seventh-grade boys from Sunnyside, Grandview and Prosser, as well as Othello and Lewiston, Idaho — Central Washington Select and 509 Insanity — competed against one another in the second game for the Sunnyside-based 509 Insanity. Central Washington Select won, 37-21.
509 Insanity defeated Hanford, 33-28, earlier in the day.
Central Washington Select played its second game of the day, defeating Hanford, 46-37.
Zillah defeated Othello, 42-27, and West Valley Swat, 41-28, later that day.
509 Insanity competed in the early Sunday games, defeating Othello, 38-29. The team faced Zillah later and lost, 28-46.
That gave Zillah the chance to play in the championship game.
Central Washington Select defeated Hanford, 32-26, in the early games to join Zillah in the title game.
Zillah prevailed, 32-30.
