Council cut short by technology

— “Technology is going to do what technology is going to do,” Deputy Mayor Dean Broersma said after Monday night’s City Council meeting.

And it did. Or didn’t.

Council members usually receive their meeting packets on the Friday before a meeting.

Because of the holiday last week, City Clerk Deb Estrada tried to get the packets to the members and online last Wednesday.

But there was an internet glitch, and the materials were not loaded. Without those packets, council members would have been working blindly

“It was a little disappointing,” said Broersma, who was sitting in for absent Mayor James Restucci.

Most of the items on the active agenda were moved to the meetings of Dec. 4 and Dec. 11. Included was the purchase of new tasers for police officers.

In addition to approving the consent agenda, the council conducted one new piece of business.

It voted to authorize City Manager Don Day to sign a contract with Copiers Northwest for equipment and service.
