Man refuses to surrender, gets arrested

Buxton found hiding in attic of house

— In an incident that, from a distance looked like a standoff, a resident was arrested for violating a domestic violence court order for protection.

Jeffrey Millard Buxton, 38, was taken to Benton County Jail at about midnight Nov. 21. He faces a second charge of resisting arrest.

Benton County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Bob Brockman said the incident started out as a Johnson Road burglary call. A neighbor of someone else nearby called in a burglary in process at a Prosser home.

When law enforcement arrived, officers realized it was not a burglary but a domestic disturbance. The supposedly stolen items were in the garage.

But Buxton didn’t leave the area. In violation of the protection order, he went into his estranged wife’s residence and wouldn’t come out, as ordered by law enforcement, Brockman said.

The two-hour or so incident ended after law enforcement got a warrant to enter the home, he said.

Officers went in to arrest him, and he came down from the attic, where he had been hiding, he said.
