Vikings prevail over Liberty Christian

— Overcoming Monday’s loss to Granger, the Mabton Vikings girls basketball team rallied for a 68-52 victory over Liberty Christian on Wednesday.

The Vikings outscored the Patriots 16-11 in the first quarter. They continued to outscore their hosts, 15-13, in the second quarter for a 31-24 halftime lead.

The Patriots still weren’t able to clamber from the first-half hole as the Vikings outscored them 16-11 in the third stanza and 21-17 in the final quarter.

Mabton had three players in double digits.

Britnee Guerrero led with a team high 16 points, 10 steals and 6 rebounds. Teammate Noemi Galarza tallied 13 points, and Kassandra Hernandez scored 12. Galarza was 4-for-8 from the free throw line.

Liberty Christian’s Katelyn Steele scored a game high 10 points and collected 9 boards.

Two other Patriots scored double digits. Maddie Godwim tallied 13 and hauled in 8 rebounds, while Emma Reed scored 10 points.
