Antonia Salazar Castilleja, 95, of Sunnyside, passed away at her home Monday, May 18, 2015 in Sunnyside surrounded by her loving family.
Antonia was born Dec. 25, 1919 in Matehuala, Mexico, the daughter of Rafael and Ignacia (Armigo) Salazar.
In June of 1940, she married the love of her life, Refugio Castilleja, in Edinburg, Texas.
She loved cooking, gardening and taking care of her family and home. Her greatest joys were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside.
She is survived by her children; Nina Negrete, Jose Castilleja, Nato (Guillermia) Castilleja, Susie (Frank) Martin, Robert (Flor) Castilleja, all of Sunnyside, and Benito (Juanita) Castilleja of Burien; 26 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Refugio Castilleja; parents, Rafael and Ignacia Salazar; son, Reynaldo Castilleja; son-in-law, Jose Negrete; seven brothers; and two sisters.
Viewing and visitation will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2015, from 2 to 8 p.m. with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, May 22, 2015, at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside, with burial to follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens.
