GRANDVIEW – Negotiations between Teamsters Local No. 760 and the city of Grandview for the contract for police department dispatchers and corrections officers have concluded.
The entities reached an agreement, which was approved 5-0 by the city council at last Tuesday’s meeting.
The contract for Jan. 1, 2013 through Dec. 31, 2016 was agreed upon in mediation on Tuesday.
Attorney Tony Menke said negotiations began last fall.
“Unfortunately this is unfinished business,” he said prior to the council vote.
There was language in the contract pertaining to discipline that was a sticking point between the city and the union. However, the two were able to reach an agreement prior to the council meeting, resulting in the final contract.
Dispatchers and correction officers will receive a 3 percent increase in wages this year; a 2 percent increase as of Jan. 1, 2015; another 1 percent increase on July 1, 2015; a 2 percent increase on Jan. 1, 2016; and another 1 percent increase on July 1, 2016 in accordance with the new contract.
There are also wage increases for longevity. After five years of service, employees receive a 1 percent base pay increase. The increases reach 5 percent after 25 years of service. At 10 and 15 years of service, employees receive a 2 percent and 3 percent increase in base pay, respectively.
Councilwoman Diana Jennings was the only council member not present Tuesday.
