A group of juveniles seen smoking in a back alley in the 300 block of Nicolai Avenue led Sunnyside police on a hour-long foot pursuit through several Sunnyside neighborhoods Wednesday morning.
Officers were able to catch the fleeing juveniles and all three were detained for questioning.
Police were also called to investigate a report of a children playing with fire near a duplex in the 500 block of Victory Way. Upon their arrival at the scene, officers discovered a five-year-old had been playing with a lighter and had caught grass on fire. Officers preceded to talk about fire safety with the children and their parents.
Police also investigated a non-injury accident reported from the intersection of East Edison Avenue and Yakima Valley Highway at approximately 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Additionally, police investigated five automatic business alarms and one residential alarm, two reports of domestic violence, two animal complaints, a report of an intoxicated person and two juvenile problems.
Officers also provided three agency assists, served one arrest warrant, made one citizen assist, made one welfare check, served two court orders and fielded three informational calls during the past 24 hours.
