Nearly 300 middle school students from around the Yakima Valley convened at Sunnyside’s Sierra Vista Middle School for a regional leadership conference. Youngsters selected for their potential leadership skills attended the Thursday, Feb. 6, event. Student volunteers also participated, such as Erica Linde (at right in foreground), who along with fellow Sierra Vista students Karen Villanueva (in hat) and Lia Anderson acted out skits to help middle schoolers address bullying. They provided the instruction under the leadership of Vincent Perez (pictured at left) with the Association of Washington School Principals, which funded the event. Students from 12 different middle schools in the Yakima Valley attended the day-long leadership program. At times they networked within their own school group and at others, as pictured above, they divided up into small groups to problem-solve.
