KENNEWICK – It’s now seven years and counting…for those keeping track of the number of Mid-Columbia Senior Golf Tour titles Black Rock Creek has pocketed.
The Sunnyside-area team wrapped up tour play last week at the final stop on the 2013 schedule – the Tri-City Country Club in Kennewick. Despite managing just a fifth-place finish at the Oct. 2 competition, Black Rock Creek handily emerged as this year’s tour champions. It’s the seventh consecutive year the Lower Valley squad has won the senior tour title.
Officially, Black Rock Creek finished tour play this year with 130 points. The team, in the 11 competitions staged in 2013, placed first in four of them and claimed runner-up honors in three others. At the four other stops, Black Rock Creek placed third on two occasions.
This year’s tour runners-up were the senior golfers from Columbia Point. They finished with 118 points in the final standings. The Pendleton Country Club squad, with 114 team points, rounded out the top three.
In placing fifth last week at the final stop on this year’s tour, the par-65 Tri-City Country Club, Black Rock Creek was led by Chris Indall. He fired a 5-over-par 70. Six strokes back at 11-over 76 was teammate Akira Nozaka.
None of Black Rock Creek’s golfers shot below their established handicaps last week. The best net round (actual score minus handicap) was a 73, posted by Bob Barker.
A total of 114 golfers representing 12 teams competed last week. The Walla Walla Veterans Golf Course squad tallied the low score – a 542. Columbia Point finished second with a 558, followed by the Pendleton Country Club (568), Desert Aire (577) and Black Rock Creek (595). Team scores are tabulated by adding the two low individual rounds to the six low net rounds.
