The newest voting updates in political races in Sunnyside show the early leaders prevailing by about the same margins as originally announced the night of Tuesday’s General Election.
The closest race is between Mary Rita Rohde and Steve Winfree for the district 3 position on the Sunnyside School Board. Tuesday night Winfree held a 92-vote lead over Rohde. Since then, Winfree’s lead has widened to 156 votes. Winfree now has 1,030 votes to Rohde’s 874.
Three races for Sunnyside City Council are still mathematically up for grabs.
In the race for the district 1 seat, incumbent Theresa Hancock holds a 164-vote lead over challenger Robert Perales, up from a 118-vote lead. Hancock has garnered 581 votes to Perales’ 417.
The district 3 race between incumbent Don Vlieger and challenger Spencer Martin also saw more daylight. Martin’s 155-vote lead has increased to 200. Martin has more than 59 percent of the total votes cast, with 606 votes to Vlieger’s 406 votes.
With nearly 65 percent of the votes, incumbent Dean Broersma has buttoned up his district 2 council seat. Broersma’s 309-vote lead is nearly insurmountable for challenger Sam Ramirez to overcome.
