KLICKITAT – The Bickleton Lady Pirates ended their season in a loser-out contest against Lyle last night (Tuesday) in Klickitat.
Bickleton ended its season 4-6 in conference play and 6-9 overall.
The Cougars won the first set 25-15 last night, but the Lady Pirates came back in the second set to even up the match with a 25-21 win.
The third set ended in a double-loss for the Lady Pirates, with junior Lindsay Brown out with a shoulder injury halfway through the set. The Cougars won the set 25-9.
The Cougars buttoned up the match, winning 25-10 in the fourth and final set.
“Our team was a little shaky from the start,” said Bickleton Coach Katie Leuthauser. “We were missing Daniela (Smith) and the younger girls hadn’t been in this sort of game situation before.
“I think we performed well under the circumstances,” she added.
Sydnie O’Banion, the Lady Pirate’s lone senior, had a solid match. She was 17-for-18 from the service line with two aces. She also made three kills at the net.
Before leaving due to her injury, Brown was 8-for-9 serving with an ace and a kill.
Katrina Cardenas gave Bickleton a 7-for-7 performance from the service line and also contributed two assists. Shaylee Tharp added a kill, an ace and four assists to the Lady Pirate’s effort.
“Overall I thought we really showed improvement throughout the year,” said Leuthauser. “The girls played hard until the end... especially the younger girls. We’ll have basically the same team next year, and I expect a lot from them.”
