City severs ties with SASA

The city of Sunnyside has hired a recreation coordinator, Megan Razey, and as a result the city's existing arrangement with the Sunnyside Arts and Sports Association (SASA) has changed. All parks and sports field reservations and fees will now be paid at city hall from Monday, July 22, through Friday, Aug. 16. Beginning Monday, Aug. 19, reservations and fees will be taken at the Sunnyside Community Center by Razey. This will also include any softball or soccer tournament reservations or fees. City officials issued a public thank-you to SASA for assisting with the administration of the city's recreation programs for the past nine months. The city has asked SASA for all keys, materials, supplies and equipment owned by the city to be returned and all SASA-owned equipment to be removed from city property. The city has also requested all funds collected in the name of the city to be remitted to the city by Monday, July 22, along with all rental agreements to enable the city to honor the agreements. The city also encouraged SASA to continue to offer programming to youth and adults under an agreement with the city with terms and conditions similar to other leagues, teams and associations. The city is also inviting volunteers to assist in keeping the community center open for the remainder of this year. Interested parties should contact Jackie Renteria, administrative assistant of public works, at (509) 837-5206 or stop off at city hall to fill out an application. Any questions regarding the reservation process, fees, or volunteering should be addressed to city hall.
