After receiving a scarf that was hand delivered by exchange student Yuki Okudaira of Narashino, Chiba in Japan, Sunnyside Mayor Jim Restucci wanted to send something in return.
The scarf was a gift from Narashino Mayor Taisuke Miyamoto.
“Sadly, I ordered a print that she (Okudaira) will not be able to hand deliver,” said Restucci, stating he wanted to send Miyamoto something special from the city of Sunnyside. Because the print did not arrive before Okudaira returned to Japan it will be shipped to Miyamoto.
Restucci said a letter signed by the members of Sunnyside’s city council will accompany the print.
“Once it arrives I will present the print at a city council meeting for council approval,” he said, stating the steps he is taking to honor Miyamoto “…say more about council programs.”
Restucci said Miyamoto’s gift was unexpected and he was honored to receive the scarf on the city’s behalf.
Now, he wants to honor Miyamoto in the best way possible with a gift from the city of Sunnyside.
