Robert (Bob) N. Conklin, 72, of Grandview, died peacefully on Friday, June 8, 2012, at home surrounded by his family after a year long struggle with end stages of liver failure.
He was the youngest of four children born to Bert and Elizabeth Conklin of Spirit Lake. At the age of 11 his family moved to Grandview, where he attended school and graduated. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served four years spending half of them overseas in Germany. He was honorably discharged as a heavy equipment mechanic. From there he moved to Bothell, where he put those skills to work, working for Airmax.
While visiting home for the holidays he was introduced to and started dating the love of his life, Bernadette Charvet. They married on Aug. 10, 1968 and resided in Bothell, until they moved back to the Lower Valley, where he joined in with the family housing construction business. He also helped his father farm cherries and apples through the years.
Upon leaving the family business, he and Bernadette ran an adult family home B and B Homecare which his daughter, Brenda helped run as well until those doors closed in 2001.
He loved to spend hours working in his wood shop and welding shop working on his 51 Chevy pick-up, "Casper." He prided himself by the workmanship of his truck and enjoyed taking Casper to parades and car shows with his long time friend, Max.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Bernadette; their three children, Brenda (Andraya) with her life partner, Sonya (Chris and Josh) of Yakima, Bobby (Lyz) (Jacob, BryAnna and Joshua) of Grandview and Andrew (Sunee) (Kaylee & Maddox) of Marysville;. his older sister, Mary Ann (Sam) Maggi of Roseville, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Joann and Berry Conklin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by both parents; and two brothers, Jim and Ray.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at 6 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grandview. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, June 14, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grandview.
