GRANDVIEW - After starting the season with six straight losses the Grandview Greyhounds won their second straight game this past Friday, a 35-6 win against visiting Wapato.
The Greyhounds got a big effort from wide receiver Herman Herrera, who caught five passes for 104 yards, including three touchdowns.
The Grandview defense held Wapato's rushing attack to 78 yards. The Wolves had 161 yards through the air.
Grandview scored twice in the first half. Quarterback Derek Swearingen found Herrera in the end zone for a 16-yard TD completion. A John Campazano kick made it 7-0.
The Greyhounds scored again in the second quarter when Jose Castillejas scampered 39 yards for a score. A Campazano extra point made it 14-0 before halftime.
Castillejas rushed 19 times for 162 yards.
Both teams put up goose eggs in the third quarter, but Grandview ignited for 21 points in the fourth quarter.
Herrera scored for the second time when he hauled in a 40-yard pass from Swearingen. He then scored again when Swearingen found him on a 34-yard pass play.
Michael Perez scored the third Grandview touchdown of the quarter when he converted a two-yard play to get into the end zone. Perez finished with 16 yards on four carries.
With the Greyhounds leading 35-0 Wapato's Gabe Arambul finally got the Wolves on the scoreboard when he rushed 12 yards for a touchdown.
Adam Perez rushed for 34 yards for the Greyhounds. Zeke Zamora added 10 yards on two carries.
Grandview's Dom Munoz caught five passes for 49 yards Friday night. Michael Perez added 39 yards on three receptions.
Swearingen passed for 192 yards, including his three touchdown tosses. He was intercepted once.
Grandview (2-5, 2-6) will travel to Othello on Friday, Oct. 29, to play the Huskies in a CWAC league game. The contest starts at 7 p.m.
