Edna Milroy Herigstad, 86, of Sunnyside, passed away peacefully Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007, at home surrounded by her family.
She was born Feb. 20, 1921, in Cushing, Okla. Edna was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, wife and friend. The love of family and friends was her world. Her hugs and sweet voice will be missed deeply.
On May 29, 1941, Edna married Robert E. Milroy Sr. in Oklahoma. Their first child, Robert Jr. was born in 1942 in Oklahoma and shortly after they moved to Sunnyside. Their second child, Anita Jean, was born in 1944. They continued to make their home in Sunnyside and her husband established Sunny Rosa Produce.
When Robert Sr. became ill, Edna obtained her cosmetology license and went to work for her sister, Dorothy Winant, at First Lady Hair Salon. She continued to work there until her retirement.
Robert Sr. passed away in 1974 and she met a wonderful man that would become her second husband. She married Melvin Herigstad on Aug. 10, 1987, and they continued to make their home in Sunnyside. Mel has two daughters, Cathy Herigstad and Cindy Dunham; and granddaughter, Lindsay Dunham. Edna was a very active and busy person all of her life. Homemaking was one of her perfections. She took a lot of pride in her home and family. When her children and grandchildren were growing up she was always involved in their activities, even raising one grandchild and taking trips as far away as Hawaii for special events. She was very active in the Jaycees. The Ladies 9 holers golfing group and dancing were two things she loved to do. She was a good golfer and enjoyed golfing with all the girls. Even when she wasn't able to golf any longer she enjoyed getting together with her golfing buddies for birthday lunches. They seemed to be a monthly occurrence. She and Mel loved to dance, and some even compared them to Fred and Ginger. On weekends they could be found with friends dancing and dining at the Elks Lodge in Sunnyside.
Edna is survived by her husband of 20 years, Melvin; her daughter, Anita Hinrichsen and husband, Bill, of Ceres, Calif.; grandchildren Kim Chapman and husband, Bob, of Bickleton, Lori Kendall of Modesto, Calif., Chad Hinrichsen and wife, Bien, of Modesto, Calif. and Brian Hinrichsen and wife, Katia, of Castro Valley, Calif.; five great-grandchildren, Taylor Rubio, Rhys Chapman, Makeila Hinrichsen, Kaleb Hinrichsen and Kate Hinrichsen and two more on the way. She is also survived by two sisters, Alta Rae Cross of Arlington, Va. and Joan Horton of Houston, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Milroy Sr.; her son, Robert Milroy Jr.; two sisters, Dorothy Winant and Janice Emery; and her brother, Earl Wells.
