Cristina Alvarez Martinez, 92, of Mabton died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007, at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born July 24, 1915 in Durango, Mexico to Jose and Josefa (Jacobo) Alvarez.
In 1938, she married Alejandro Martinez in Texas. They together made their home in Texas until moving to Mabton in 1960, where she resided for 45 years.
She is survived by her children, Dario Martinez and wife, Rosa, of Mabton, Juan de la Cruz Martinez and wife, Isabel, of Mabton, Alejandro Martinez Jr. of Weslaco, Texas, Pedro Martinez and wife, Natividad, and Petra Torres, all of Elsa, Texas, Jesus Martinez of Yakima, Arturo Martinez, Sylvia Martinez and Ignacia Amador, all of Grandview, and Reyes Moreno of Houston, Texas; 42 grandchildren, 91 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alejandro Martinez; and two sons, Guadalupe and Manuel.
Viewing and visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, from 1 to 8 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Concepcion Catholic Church in Mabton, with burial to follow at the Mabton Cemetery.
