The new Sierra Vista Middle School is open for classes, but there are some items to be wrapped up before the Sunnyside School District signs off that the project is completed.
Facilities Coordinator Braven Bendzak told the school board last night that the school is still awaiting lockers for the eighth grade wing.
That's due in part, he said, to the fact that construction on the wing wasn't able to begin until March of this year. Bendzak said the lockers have been ordered and should be arriving soon.
Another missing item addressed during a school board study session last night was the condition of the Sierra Vista athletic field.
Bendzak said the school's original building plans called for the field to be completed later in phase two, which accompanied the eighth grade wing.
He said irrigation lines will be in place by the end of this month and in October the field will be hydroseeded.
Bendzak said football will not be played on the field this season to give the grass time to grow. Sierra Vista football, then, will be played for this year at Harrison Middle School.
The field will be ready for baseball in the spring, he added.
Bendzak also noted that the Sierra Vista kitchen ventilation system needs to be re-outfitted to allow for air conditioning and heating, while meeting guidelines for pulling out kitchen exhaust.
The remainder of the items to be addressed include squeaky fan belts and screws missing on a fan cover.
