MABTON - During a special meeting held last night, Mabton City Council members approved a personnel manual.
According to City Clerk Sharon Roy, the city was in need of creating one, as the old manual on hand was out dated and consisted largely of memos.
The model they used was based on Tieton's manual because that city most closely resembles Mabton in size.
Key changes in forming it to suit Mabton's needs include:
-Martin Luther King Day will be observed as a holiday by the city.
-When a city employee is promoted, the amount of increase in pay will be approved by Mayor and Council.
-If an employee is unable to meet the physical requirements pertaining to his or her job, the Mayor will determine the recommendation to terminate, as opposed to the head of that particular department.
-With regard to travel and workshops, city employees may not be involved in these activities if they are behind in their work. That determination will be made by the Mayor.
-Effective Jan. 1, Mabton's City Hall hours will change to 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and be open during the lunch hour. Currently, city hall is closed on Fridays and at lunch, and the doors open to the public at 8:30 a.m.
City Council members also referred to Grandview's city vehicle use policy, and, effective Jan. 1, city vehicles will not be taken to an employee's home unless that employee is on call or for emergency purposes.
