Keeping baseball FUN, especially in the early stages of youth baseball is a primary concern of the Babe Ruth League’s Cap Ripken division. This division is comprised of children ages 6 to 12. The Sunnyside Cal Ripken League has 130 boys and girls enrolled in our program this year. We are pleased to have our first ever Girls 12-Under fastpitch division added to our league.
Our season started with our opening ceremonies. We would like to thank the following for helping make our ceremonies possible: the Sunnyside Police Department, Bill and Darcy Monson, Ace Hardware, Tom Dolan, Valley Racquet and Fitness Club and the players, coaches and parents of our league.
The season officially started in mid-April with games being played at Lincoln Fields and South Hill Park. We would like to thank the following sponsors who have made our season possible: Sunnyside Community Hospital, Mt. States Construction, Perez Welding, Dr. Fred Boboth, CanAm Steel, Slam Dunk, Hops Direct LLC, Sunny Spot Car Wash, Bob’s Drive In, Dr. Randall Schuler, Dale and Barbara Miller, Service Master, Double D Steakhouse, Raquel’s Hair Boutique, Scissor City, FruitSmart, Edward Jones – Brian Bliesner, American West Bank, Les Schwab Tire Center – Sunnyside, Valley Processing, Digital Creations NW and Bi-Rite Lumber.
We would like to invite you to come and support our young future Grizzlies. Our kids are on these fields every evening. Come join us and cheer these kids on.

I am writing this because someone in the neighborhood is killing songbirds.
I understand the need to protect crops, but I found a Golden-crowned sparrow by my house that appeared to be shot. It was very close to a Brewer’s blackbird that also appeared shot.
I wish if people are going to shoot birds that they would take some time and learn the difference between pests and our threatened songbirds. They are protected and beautiful.
