The Sunnyside Police Department apprehended three suspects last night who officers believed attempted to rob a convenience store in the 400 block of Cemetery Road.
Sunnyside Police Captain Phil Schenck said the incident occurred about 10 p.m. last night. Two suspects entered the store with their faces covered and gloves on their hands. Schenck said one of the men was armed and demanded the clerk hand over all money in the store. Schenck said the clerk refused to do so and then the suspects fled to a waiting car outside, where a third person was waiting. Schenck said the clerk immediately called the police. The three suspects were apprehended a short time later in the 600 block of Victory Way. Schenck said a sawed-off shotgun was recovered.
Schenck said the department will be requesting first degree robbery charges against Angel Flores, 19, of Grandview; Valentin Navarro, 20, of Granger; and Esequiel Bibriesca, 29, of Mabton.
Schenck said no one sustained any injuries in the incident.
